An Introduction to Hybrid Bikes

What are Hybrid Bikes?
Sometimes you want the best of both worlds, and that is exactly what a hybrid bike provides. This innovative bike combines features of both mountain and road bikes to create a model that is comfortable on a variety of surfaces and is ideal for the average rider. Perfect for non professional road cycling but also off road tracks, the hybrid bike is becoming increasingly popular as a flexible solution. Taking in mind health and environmental concerns, more and more people are now biking into work. A hybrid bike is ideal for this application as it is designed for both the daily commute, and riding off road with your children at the weekend for instance.

The design of the bike
Hybrid bikes are usually made of aluminium or steel, as these materials are strong and long lasting. They will feature suspension which gives a more comfortable ride of the bumps and hills of off road biking. Be aware however that hybrid bikes are not ideal for tricks, jumps or riding over unusually rocky terrain. With its upright frame it is comfortable to ride, with handlebars similar to those found on a mountain bike to aid maneuverability. The tyres provide excellent stability, whilst simultaneously allowing excellent speeds on roads. Similarly hybrid bikes have enough gears to enable you to climb hills and ride fast on flat areas.

What should I consider when buying a bike.
There are many different types of bikes so you should have a think about how you are intending to use it. Where will you be riding? Will you be on road of off road? Are you intending to use it in competitive races? Will you be riding for long distances. If like many people you are looking for a combination of the above, then a hybrid bike could be the product for you.
